This is why you shouldn't shop for smartphones on Black Friday and instead wait for BlackBerry 10!

I've never been out to snag "deals" on Black Friday - nor will I ever be. In my opinion there is no reason to get up at the butt-crack of dawn to go save money on no-name electronics, but to each his own. The video above pretty much sums it all up -- and this is why you don't try to find bargain deals on smartphones on Black Friday.
Just be smart and wait for BlackBerry 10

Developer Relations LIVE!

TITLE_IMAGE
One thing we heard over and over again during the BlackBerry® Got Game Port-a-Thon was that developers loved getting almost instant responses to their questions from one of the many members of our Developer Relations team.  Why stop a good thing?  Starting Wednesday, November 21st and continuing right up until January 30th, we’ll have be offering live time in the forums, where you can expect to get responses as quickly as we can type them.
How will it work?
Two hours a week, every week, we’ll address one of the developer audiences listed below.  We know we have an active developer community, and we want you to participate.  Since there’s no way to lock a forum thread, we’ll go low tech: if you know the answer to a question and you intend to respond to it, simply reply to the thread indicating “got it” then go ahead and type your response.  This simple claim of ownership will prevent multiple devs from responding to the same question at the same time.  And as per usual in the developer forums, if your question was answered, mark it as “solved” or if you see a good response, put a “like” on it.  Basically, just give recognition to those who deserve it.
When and where?
Mondays:
Marmalade: 10 AM to 12 PM (GMT-5) in Marmalade’s developer forums.
Sencha: 12 PM to 2 PM (GMT-5) in Sencha’s developer forums.
Tuesdays:
Cascades™ – BlackBerry Java porting to BlackBerry 10: 10 AM to 12 PM (GMT-5) in the BlackBerry developer support forums.
PhoneGap: 12 PM to 2 PM (GMT-5) in the BlackBerry developer support forums.
Wednesdays:
Qt: 10 AM to 12 PM (GMT-5) in the BlackBerry developer support forums.
jQuery: 12 PM to 2 PM (GMT-5) in jQuery’s developer forums.
Thursdays:
BlackBerry WebWorks™: 10 AM to 12 PM (GMT-5) in the BlackBerry developer support forums.
Android: 12 PM to 2 PM (GMT-5) in Stack Overflow.
Fridays:
AIR: 12 PM to 2 PM (GMT-5) in the BlackBerry developer support forums.
Watch for more time slots to be added in the near future to better accommodate our developers in Asia-Pacific.  See you in the forums!

BlackBerry Got Game Port-A-Thon Update!

Here’s a guest post from Lou Gazzola with an update on the Got Game Port-A-Thon – Ed.

I was absolutely moved at the end of the 36 hour event when things went quiet and I saw the constant stream of “#BB10Believe” and “I Believe” in the chat window.  I just spent 36 hours with an incredible group of people from around the globe.  Together we chatted, coded, solved problems and created game apps for BlackBerry® 10.  We also had a few laughs!
The number of people that submitted more than five and 10 apps was staggering!  As per the Program Terms and Conditions, the first ten qualified participants to submit 10 approved apps will receive a trip to the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco and the first one hundred qualified participants to submit between five and 10 apps will receive a BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha testing device.  I was so astounded by the positive response and the number of apps we received, that I went back my team and suggested we do something for the rest of the developers that submitted the required number of apps but were not one of the first 100 or 10 qualifiers for a reward in their category.
As a result, we decided to give away ten additional trips and twenty additional BlackBerry Dev Alpha test devices!  On Dec 16, we will conduct a draw to give away ten more trips to the Game Developers Conference and twenty BlackBerry Dev Alpha testing devices.  The draw for the trips will be open to all those developers who submitted 10 or more approved apps during the BlackBerry Got Game Port-A-Thon Program Period and who have not already qualified for the trip.  The draw for the BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha testing devices will be open to all those developers who submitted five or more but less than 10 approved apps during the BlackBerry Got Game Port-A-Thon Program Period and who have not already qualified for the BlackBerry Dev Alpha testing device.
By the end of this week, we will send all eligible developers an email outlining the delivery details of your reward.. We anticipate that qualified vendors will receive their rewards in two to four weeks once we have confirmation that all the apps have been approved.
Here are more details which really impressed me!  There were 645 developers that participated in the live event and 520 developers that are eligible for rewards.  Over 2,000 apps were created for the BlackBerry 10 OS.
Thank you once again to all that participated in the event!
